"I am so glad that I found Stautzenberger when I did; it helped me to see what it really was that I wanted in life."

Stautzenberger, Paralegal Graduate

Think the only way to have a legal career is to become a lawyer?

Not True! The world of law requires many other professionals, including paralegals, legal assistants, legal secretaries, court clerks, court reporters, bailiffs, administrative assistants, and probation officers.  None of these positions require a law degree, but they DO normally require some level of formal education. And luckily, you can get that education in about only two years!

Today’s legal organizations rely heavily on trained paralegals to perform functions ranging from law office management and administrative work to evidence taking and in-court case support.  Graduates from the Paralegal Studies Program at Stautzenberger College have interned and are now working at some of the area’s top law firms, courts, and corporations.

Stautzenberger College’s Paralegal Studies Program is unique among all such programs in northeast Ohio. Our faculty features attorneys and judges licensed in the State of Ohio! Who better to learn from than local judges and attorneys? As individuals who have employed paralegals throughout their careers, our faculty knows what skills courts, law firms, and corporations are looking for in their paralegals!

Join us to begin your career today! Our faculty invite you to tour the campus and sit in on their classes so that you may experience first-hand the distinct difference a Stautzenberger education can make for you.

A Day in the Life of a Paralegal*

A paralegal is an integral part of a legal team. While lawyers are ultimately responsible for legal work, they often delegate many of their tasks to paralegals. As a paralegal, you will:

  • Help prepare for and assist attorneys during closings, hearings, trials and corporate meetings
  • Investigate case facts
  • Identify appropriate laws, judicial decisions and other materials that are relevant to your client’s case
  • Analyze and organize information, and prepare reports that help determine how a case will be handled
  • Prepare legal arguments
  • Draft pleadings and motions
  • Obtain affidavits
  • Organize and track case documents

As a paralegal, you could work in community legal services and help disadvantaged persons in need of legal aid. You may also work in fields such as real estate law and corporate law.

Job Outlook*

Employment of paralegals and legal assistants is expected to grow by 18 percent from 2010 to 2020, about as fast as the average for all occupations. As employers try to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of legal services, they are expected to hire more paralegals and legal assistants. Following the cutbacks experienced during the recent recession, some law firms are rebuilding their support staff by hiring paralegals. Paralegals can be a less costly alternative to lawyers and perform a wider variety of duties, including tasks once done by lawyers. This will cause an increase in demand for paralegals and legal assistants.
