The Career Services Department of Stautzenberger College, Brecksville is designed to forge successful partnerships with EVERY student to develop clear winning job search strategies. The intent is to help students seamlessly transition from graduation into a career opportunity. Our FREE offerings assist students with:

  • Defining a Marketing Plan
  • Building a Professional Network
  • Adding to the “Toolbox” – resumes, cover letters, elevator speech, conversation starter
  • Executing the job search – both networking and on-line
  • Interviewing – practice, practice, practice
  • Best practices – follow -up

Our focus is assisting our students to craft and polish their “RESULTS” narrative and find a job match with the right position. In an effort to better serve our students and alumni, we have listed a few helpful tools listed above. Students are encouraged to use any and all services to help conduct an effective jobsearch strategy. Our goal is to position, prepare, and place EVERY graduate into their chosen profession for a meaningful,longtime, successful employment.

Career Services Checklist                                            

 Resumes                                                

  • Have you consulted with your Career Services?   
  • Have you completed your resume and emailed it in word format to Career Services?         
  • Is your OBJECTIVE to the point, and does it give the employer the impression “This is who I am”?
  • Do you have special skills?
  • Have you received any awards?
  • Have you entered your EXPERIENCE?  This is an area in which you must be selective.
  • Are you keeping your work experience within the parameters of the position that you are seeking?
  • Are you emphasizing how your prior work experience applies to the current opening?
  • Do you have a reference sheet ready with four references listed?
  • Did you proofread your resume?                           
  • Is it printed on high-quality paper? Do not choose distracting patterns.

 

Cover Letters                                                  

  • Does the first paragraph of your cover letter grab the reader’s attention?
  • Have you told the employer exactly what position you are applying for and how you found out about the position?
  • Have you stated why you are interested in the position and the organization?                           
  • Did you use specific examples that amplify and prove possession of the skills listed on your resume?                           
  • Have you avoided restating your resume?                           
  • Is the sentence structure varied?                           
  • Have you detailed what you can do for the organization rather than what it can do for you?                        
  • Does it convey confidence without seeming arrogant?                           
  • Did you express appreciation for the employer considering your resume?                           
  • Is this letter so general that anyone could have written it for any position?                           
  • Did you close with a “Thank You” for considering you for the position?

Where is the Career Services Office located?

We are located on the North side of the college, across from the Student Services Office.

Are career services available to me after I graduate?

Yes. Stautzenberger College alumni are eligible to utilize all services and resources offered through the Career Services Office for life. Current students may also use the Office as needed. Please call 440-838-1999 ext. 114 to schedule an appointment.

What services does Career Services offer?

The following services are available to Stautzenberger College students and alumni: resume, cover letter, mock interviewing and how to search for job assistance.

I need to see someone about my resume right away. Can I just come in?

Career Services door is always open. However, you may want to call Career Services at (440) 838-1999 x114 and schedule an appointment to make sure that there is adequate time to have all of your questions answered.

I’ve finished my program, where’s my job?

Career Services will assist you in your job search. There are no guaranties, or promises of employment. We may assist you with completing your resume and cover letter and refer you to open positions. We will also assist you in your networking efforts.

What is a Mock Interview?

You will participate in a practice interview session with Career Services. A mock interview will help you learn how to apply effective interviewing skills. We will also give you advice on presentation and communication techniques.
