The Ohio Revised Code (State Medical Board of Ohio) requires that in order to take the Ohio examination for massage therapy, the student must graduate from an approved school. In addition, the State Medical Board of Ohio requires as a part of state lisensure requirements for applicants to pass the MBLEx (Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam) administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
Program Overview:
The Massage Therapy Program provides thorough preparation for licensure by the Medical Board of the State of Ohio as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).
The Massage Therapy diploma program consists of 900 clock hours of instruction delivered in four 10-week modules, with 225 clock hours of instruction in each module. The program is designed to provide students with a “hands-on” approach to gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the function of a Licensed Massage Th erapist as well as provide each student a solid foundation in massage techniques, massage science, professional communication skills, and business entreprenaurial strategies.
For example, the Anatomy & Physiology and Massage Therapy coursework is specifically designed not only to provide you with the knowledge necessary to pass the exam required by the State Medical Board of Ohio, but also practice the skills you will use upon becoming licensed. Additionally, courses in Medical Terminology, Ethics, Business Fundamentals and Exam Review contribute to your overall knowledge base and marketability, ensuring that you will be prepared to build relationships with your clients, co-workers, and other wellness professionals. A licensed massage therapist (LMT) is a vital member of the wellness team. Our hands-on environment will prepare you to relieve stress, create relaxation, alleviate pain, assess clients and identify their needs and so much more! You will be prepared to work in environments like: wellness clinics, hospitals, spas and salons, chiropractor’s offices, cruise ships or to work for yourself!

The Student Massage Therapy Clinic at Stautzenberger College, Brecksville offers daytime student massages to the general public to help residents of northeast Ohio cope with the stressors in their lives. Please call 440.838.1999 to make an appointment.
You will receive a one-hour general relaxation massage from one of our Student Massage Therapist, under the supervision of Licensed Massage Therapists, as part of their final course work.

Courses offered include Anatomy and Physiology, Ethics, and Massage Therapy.
Emphasis is also placed on business aspects of the massage therapy profession to prepare students for independent practice and/or company ownership.
This program is designed to prepare the student to take the licensing examination required by the State Medical Board of Ohio, and to work in positions with such titles as massage therapist, licensed massage therapist, registered massage therapist, certified massage therapist, licensed massage practitioner, certified massage practitioner, or ethical massage practitioner (SOC Code 31-9011). The student must also submit to and pass a criminal background check by the state of Ohio for a license to be issued.
