A Day in the Life of a Paralegal or Legal Assistant*
A paralegal is an integral part of a legal team. While lawyers are ultimately responsible for legal work, they often delegate many of their tasks to paralegals. As a paralegal, you will:
- Help prepare for and assist attorneys during closings, hearings, trials and corporate meetings
- Investigate case facts
- Identify appropriate laws, judicial decisions and other materials that are relevant to your client’s case
- Analyze and organize information, and prepare reports that help determine how a case will be handled
- Prepare legal arguments
- Draft pleadings and motions
- Obtain affidavits
- Organize and track case documents
As a paralegal, you could work in community legal services and help disadvantaged persons in need of legal aid. You may also work in fields such as real estate law and corporate law.
