Stautzenberger College has gone “green!”
With its move to Brecksville, Stautzenberger College has devoted particular attention to becoming “eco-friendly.” The College’s students and staff have made significant efforts to lessen the College’s carbon footprint. As part of these initiatives, the College has:
- Implemented a recycling program that includes plastics, metals and paper products. Proceeds from the Recycling Program are given to the student chapter of NAVTA, for donation to worthwhile causes.
- Implemented a paper-use reduction effort by asking that notes, assignments, and materials be given to students by e-mail, rather than printed on paper. All students purchase their own laptops for use in college, making this a feasible and sustainable plan to reduce waste.
- Initiated a paper use-reduction effort among staff and faculty to limit the quantity of paper waste generated by employees.
- Implemented a paper shredding program so that the paper waste products can be used safely for cage lining for the animals, thereby reducing the waste of the Vet Tech program and putting existing waste to good use.
- Begun structuring a program through which commuting among students is encouraged. The College makes an effort to connect students in close geographical proximity with one another together so that they may commute in a single vehicle, thereby reducing their commuting costs and decreasing their carbon footprints!
- Ensured that ample refrigerator space is available to employees and students so that they may pack their lunches in reusable containers, thereby eliminating the use of vehicles to leave campus to purchase lunches and the waste resulting from disposable food containers.
- Ensured that healthy vending options are available on campus (including vegetarian options) so that students and employees need not leave campus in order to eat healthily even if they do not pack their lunches!
- Offering a filtered water jug for faculty and staff so that fewer bottles of water are purchased for consumption in the classroom.
Join us in celebrating these small steps toward a more sustainable model for college life!
