Featured Graduates and Faculty
Stautzenberger College, Brecksville is extremely proud of its outstanding faculty. We know how critical it is for students to learn from faculty who share their passion and who practice in the field in which they teach. Our Instructors understand what it means to be on the front lines and know which skills our students will need to succeed.
Each month, we feature a few members of both the faculty and graduate pool who are particularly noteworthy for their accomplishments. Please join us in celebrating these individuals!

| Dr. Lisa Synder, DVM |
Dr. Lisa Snyder has served in many different veterinary capacities in her 20 years in the field. With her love for animals, she always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian. Dr. Snyder acted on that dream, and obtained her B.S. in Agriculture (1985) and her D.V.M. (1989) from OSU.
Dr. Snyder began her career in private practice, but in 2000 entered lab animal practice at WIL Research Laboratories. In 2007, she joined Stautzenberger College, Brecksville, where she is an Instructor in the Veterinary Technology program and heads the IACUC committee. Since beginning at Stautzenberger, she has focused on lab animal and surgery courses, though she has taught many more. She has also served as District 4 representative to the OVMA Board of Trustees for over a decade.
Dr. Snyder and her husband live in Ashland, where they are active visiting nursing homes with their therapy dog, Emma. They just recently welcomed Bella (a 12 week old boxer) to the family. She is the couple’s fourth boxer, and hopefully will continue a great tradition of therapy a dogs! They also have two cats, Simon and Tabby, who currently are not happy about Bella!
Dr. Snyder’s part-time position at Stautzenberger has enabled Dr. Snyder and her husband, Pete, to spend more time on charitable activities and travel. Her charity work includes unique efforts to help the disadvantaged, including a trip to the Dominican Republic in 2008 for a week spent assisting her local ophthalmologist in the surgery room. She considered the experience a real blessing. “Vision is so important, and being able to be a part of this eye team was so cool. Watching totally blind people walk out of the surgery room with vision was truly amazing.” She plans to return to the Dominican Republic for future assists in January, 2010.
Dr. Snyder has also spent time in Africa. Last spring, she and her husband visited a friend they met in Ashland, while he was attending the seminary. Their friend is a pastor in Nigeria. In response to his invitation, Dr. Snyder and her husband hopped on a plane (not as easy as it sounds due to visa requirements for entering Nigeria) and went for a 10-day trip to visit this African country.
It was the end of the dry season, with temperatures over 100° F every day. One of the highlights of her trip? The “safari we experienced, where we witnessed a herd of over 50 elephants up close and personal.”
“I feel fortunate that my career has given me the chance to do something I truly love. I have had the best of many worlds, and enjoy not only the animal aspect of veterinary medicine, but the people interaction that it has required. In addition, this career has enabled me to branch out an experience life in many different ways, as it has exposed me to many people and places. Veterinary medicine is so respected throughout the nation and the world that being a veterinarian has opened doors I never thought possible.”

My experience at Stautzenberger was a fantastic one. I hadn't been in a class room in almost 15 years. Very intimidating at first. The faculty made me feel like part of the team. All (and I do mean all) faculty made themselves available to assist me with both learning and even emotional support. To this day I still will give them a call if I have a situation that I'm not clear on how to handle. They held me accountable for missed days along with "not doing the best you can." Which I needed. I gained many friendships from my college experience. I attribute Stautzenberger for preparing me for the boards and for keeping me focused on my passion when times were tough. I always recommend my school and their programs. Thank you for preparing me to ‘Do what I love.’
